Indian Head Massage
This form of massage, also known as Champissage originates from the grooming rituals of Indian women who held importance in the appearance, condition and strength of their hair and in the health of their scalp. Men would also experience a form of head massage when visiting the barbers. As with many Therapies and health and wellbeing systems originating in the East, the traditional techniques have been studied, adjusted and altered to suit Western styles and practices.

This massage is experienced in a seated position and, as well as the head, can incorporate the neck, face, shoulders and back. The treatment can be done with or without the use of oil, and therefore, can be experienced either fully or partially clothed.

Indian Head Massage adopts some of the principles of Ayurveda, the traditional Indian system of medicine and wellbeing which include the selection of specific oils and the use of energy balancing techniques. The range of oils used in this treatment may include: Sweet Almond Oil; Grapeseed Oil; Coconut Oil; Sesame Oil; Olive Oil and Mustard Oil.

Compared to a “traditional” couch massage, Indian Head Massage offers the Therapist a different range of angles and positions to work from and can be very effective with neck and shoulder tension. As a receiver, the client is physically “involved” in the treatment which can result in a heightened awareness of the space around us.
